Selecting A CIJ Coder or DOD Coder

Coders or id printers are an important tool for many industries, and there are many different types and brands. If you are searching for industrial coding equipment, here are a few tips that can make the process easier.

There are many excellent brands of coders, including Domino coders, VideoJet, Willett printers and many other manufacturers. What might be a more important consideration is the type of id coder you purchase rather than the brand name.

In general, there are two main types of id coders – the CIJ coder or the DOD coder. The CIJ coder is a continuous inkjet printer. CIJ printers are the most commonly used type of printers in industries that rely on marking and coding. Typically you will need a CIJ printer if you are printing small characters. CIJ coders can print on many different surfaces and materials, as well as curved or uneven surfaces. These types of printers also are an excellent option if you have a fast production line.

The DOD printer or Drop-on-Demand printer is another option and especially suited to items that need large character coding. DOD printing also works very well on porous materials, such as wood or corrugated boxes, as well as varnished cartons and even metal or plastic. If you are not sure what type of coder you need, consider calling PrintJet and one of our staff members can make some recommendations.
